Preparation
  • Playing area: 40x35 meters
  • Players: 12 + 1 goalkeeper
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • Series: 4 series of 3 minutes interspersed with 1 minute of passive recovery
Summary Secondary Objectives
Exercise to train dribbling, defensive recovery runs and shooting
Oriented control, Feints and tricks, Shooting
Organization
Inside the playing area place a starting marker 35 meters from the goal. 10 meters from the marker, place 4 markers creating a 35x10 rectangle perpendicular to the goal. Place 2 cones about 15 meters away from the starting marker. Split the players into 2 teams using the vests. The players (eg. blues) stay at the starting marker with a ball each. The players (eg. reds) stay behind the side cones. The goalkeeper stays in goals
Description
  1. On the coach call, either RED or YELLOW, the player in blue starts dribbling the ball towards the goal, while the first player in red in the line of the colour called by the coach starts a recovery run to stop the dribbler
  2. The player in red has to reach the player in blue before he crosses into the outlined (with the markers) area
  3. If the player in red reaches the blue player inside the area they start a 1 vs 1 game with the blue player attempting to beat the red defender and then shoot at goal
  • After the exercise the blue player, takes the ball and goes to the back of the line
  • In every series the 2 teams invert their roles

Rules
  • If the player in red doesn't reach the player in blue, the attacking player can shoot at goal once he's inside the box
  • If the player in red reaches the player in blue before he gets in the box, the round is over and the blue player goes back to the end of their line
  • The team with the greatest number of goals wins
Variations
  1. Enlarge or reduce the size of the field according to the age and the technical level of the players
Coaching Points
  • High tempo during the whole exercise
  • Is important to keep the ball close to the foot while carrying it
  • Multiplicity of dribbling skills to improve technique and agility
  • Use of body by dribbler to cut off the line of recovery of the defender
  • Work with a limited number of players to reduce the rest between series
